Let's elevate your career! Weekly advice to energise and elevate your job search and career - the tips & tricks recruiters don't want you to know.

There’s a version of your career where things “just happen” to you… …and there’s a version where you decide what happens next .

Most people are operating in the first.

This edition is about dragging yourself and your career firmly into the second.

The Hard Truth (That Most Won’t Accept)

    The market is not broken.

    It’s just less forgiving .

    Companies are leaner

    Hiring managers are time-poor

    Expectations are higher

Competition is sharper (and now global + AI-enabled)

    And here’s the uncomfortable bit:

You are now competing against people who are treating their careers like a business.

If you’re waiting to be recognised, promoted, or “found”… You’re already behind.

What’s Actually Happening in Marketing, Digital & Transformation

    Let’s ground this in reality

Job postings in marketing & tech dropped significantly through 2023, 2025 after post-COVID overhiring (with some markets seeing declines of 20, 40% depending on role/region)

~ 70% of businesses are now actively investing in AI tools impacting marketing, automation, and transformation roles

Employers increasingly prioritise specialist + adaptable hybrids (e.g. “performance marketer who understands AI workflows” or “transformation lead who can execute”)

Remote work has expanded your competition pool globally, not just locally

Translation: It’s not enough to be “good at your job” anymore.

    You need to be:

    Commercially aware

    Technically evolving

    Visible

    Connected

    The Ownership Shift

There are two types of professionals right now:

    1. Reactive Operators

    Apply for jobs when needed

    Update CV once a year

Hope their experience speaks for itself

Blame the market when things stall

    2. Career Builders (What You Need to Become)

    Track industry shifts weekly

Build relevant, future-proof skills before they’re required

Actively create opportunities (not wait for them)

Position themselves as a solution to business problems

Mini Training: How to Take Back Control (Starting Now)

    1. Relearn Your Industry (Properly)

Most people work in marketing/digital/transformation… Very few actually study it .

    Start here:

What are the top 3 trends reshaping your role? (AI, automation, data, customer behaviour shifts)

What tools are replacing manual work in your field?

    What skills are becoming obsolete?

If you can’t answer this clearly, that’s your first gap.

    2. Skill Stack for What’s Next

For marketing, digital & transformation professionals:

    Baseline is no longer enough.

You should be layering skills like:

AI tools (e.g. prompting, automation workflows, content acceleration)

Data literacy (not full analyst, but confident interpretation)

Commercial thinking (how your work drives revenue, not just output)

    Personal brand (visibility = opportunity)

The question isn’t “what’s my job?” It’s “what problems can I solve that others can’t?”

    3. Stop Consuming. Start Creating.

If you’re only scrolling LinkedIn, you’re invisible.

    Start:

    Sharing perspectives on trends

    Documenting what you’re learning

    Engaging meaningfully with others

This isn’t about becoming an “influencer”, It’s about becoming visible to opportunity .

    4. Network With Intent (Not Desperation)

Most people network when they need something.

    High performers:

Build relationships before they need them

    Stay curious about others

    Add value without immediate return

Simple rule: If your network doesn’t know what you do or what you’re aiming for, that’s on you.

    5. Create Opportunities Weekly

You should be doing at least 2, 3 of these every week:

Reach out to someone in your industry

Apply for a role (even if you’re not desperate)

Share a piece of content or insight

Learn a new tool or skill

Offer your help on a project or idea

Opportunities don’t come from thinking. They come from volume + visibility .

The Routine You Need to Adopt

If you’re serious about taking control, here’s a simple structure:

    Daily (30, 60 mins)

    Industry learning (articles, trends, tools)

Light LinkedIn engagement (comments > likes)

    Weekly (2, 4 hours)

    Skill development (AI, data, tools)

    2, 3 meaningful networking actions

1 piece of content or insight

    Monthly

Review your positioning: Are you more valuable than last month? Are you more visible? Are you closer to your next move?

    The Real Differentiator

    It’s not talent.

    It’s not experience.

    It’s not even opportunity.

    It’s ownership .

    Most people:

    Know what they should do

    But don’t do it consistently

    The ones who win:

    Act early

    Stay consistent

    Adapt faster than the market

    Final Thought

    You can:

    Blame the market

    Wait for things to improve

    Hope someone notices you

    Or…

You can take control, build momentum, and make yourself impossible to ignore.

If You’re Ready to Take This Seriously
